The applications of Mucell® technology in plastic products from different industries were the main topic of the technological workshop held at Aitiip, Zaragoza (Spain) on June 27th.
This workshop, organized by Aitiip in collaboration with innovative companies as Trexel and 2-Limit, has aimed to teach and show from a theoretical and practical point of view to the professionals of the attending companies, coming from different points of the Spanish geography, the advantages of incorporating this technology into its plastic transformation processes. Injection with supercritical fluids (foaming) allows to obtain components in all types of thermoplastic materials in which the apparent density is lower than the density of the "solid" material.
This technology of assisted injection with supercritical fluids (normally nitrogen) allows obtaining a structure of sandwich material in which the outer surfaces of the injected specimens are formed by solid material and the core of these is formed by a foamed structure.
There are several advantages on using this technology being the most obvious piece weight reduction, between 8% and 10%, but it can reach up to 25% of the total. This weight savings leads to a reduction of material and therefore costs. Other advantages are related to the cycle time, which is reduced, and the closing force, which makes it up to 50%.
The MuCell® technology means dimensional stability in the piece thanks to the internal tensions reduction, which allows a better repeatability in the piece.
Aitiip collaborates with different companies to design and to simulate products as well as to develop their molds to be able to use the MuCell® technology with optimal results. Mainly relevant are the products of the automotive sector (advantages also connected to the electric vehicle) as well as electrical appliances, where each gram has an impact while maintaining the functional and aesthetic properties of the same.
If you have a project in which MuCell® can be of your interest please contact us.
Aitiip would like to acknowledge to all attendees, speakers and CEFA for lending us the mold for the demonstrations
